New Coach, New Season
When Kassidy Focht took over the Charles Page cheer program as the head coach, she had already spent the previous three seasons on the staff. Being familiar with the team has helped her plan ahead. Knowing where the program is headed and having a plan for the future instantly became her focus.
“I am very hopeful and eager about the future of the Sandite cheer program. This is my first year as head varsity coach and my fourth year in the program. This is one of the youngest varsity teams I have coached, and I am excited about investing in their future as a team and laying successful groundwork for the large quantity of sophomores who will eventually help lead the team,” said coach Focht.
The current roster features five seniors who have taken on leadership roles this season. They include Aydan Roper, Abby Williamson, Madori Bland, Madison Thompson, and Makayla Murray.
A pair of juniors in Lillie Keim and Abbi Elder are sandwiched between the seniors and a very large group of sophomores. But all seven of the upperclassmen have welcomed in the young group and are excited to have the season underway.
“We are all looking forward to the exciting new endeavors and challenges for the team as well as the memories to be made this year,” said coach Focht.
The sophomore takeover consists of Alysa Chase, KK Turney, Laylah Bland, Addily Shotwell, Payton Stewart, Sarah Turner, Ella Phillips, Lauren Blevins, Kylee Bailey, Taylor Coleman, Finley Raglin, and Savanna Winzenburg.
Having missed the state competition and the gameday competition last year has the Sandites working hard towards the goal of developing and growing into a state worthy squad. Under the leadership of coach Focht, the team is focused and ready to take on the challenges of a tough season after putting in the hard work in the offseason to prepare for 2022-23.
