First Year in the Books for Sand Springs’ Chloe Aspen Grona – Presented by Rib Crib

By Trina Walker

Chloe Aspen Grona is a multi-sport athlete at Charles Page High School in Sand Springs.

She is a freshman proudly representing the cross country and soccer teams.

Her primary sport is soccer, where she plays midfield, specifically the 8-position. “I love it because it allows me to be creative. I enjoy the challenge of reading the game,” she says. “Soccer is part of my lifestyle and brings me pure joy and happiness.”

Along with happiness, soccer has taught Chloe lessons to help her navigate life. “When facing challenges on the field or in life, you have to be patient. It takes time and failure to reach goals. This helps me stay focused and driven to push through obstacles and strive to achieve success.”

Being part of a team gives a sense of belonging, she says. “We all have different strengths, but we all work for a common goal. We go through the ups and downs together and are there to support one another. I love the support that comes with being part of a team.”

Chloe’s accomplishments from her club team and high school stack up. “Making it to the ECNL-RL national finals game with my club team was an incredible experience that I’ll always cherish,” she says. “My favorite high school accomplishment, however, was scoring a header goal against one of the top teams. It was an amazing feeling, and I’ll always remember that moment.”

Good teammates build the foundation for a good team. Chloe looks up to CPHS team captain, Avery Miller. “She is an outstanding player and leader. She is always working hard during practice and games. She is someone I know who always has my back. Avery always worked hard till the end, which helped motivate me even when frustrated.”

Chloe’s involvement with soccer started early. Her family helps run West Side Alliance Soccer Club. “My mom was a coach, and she encouraged me to start playing at a young age. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to develop my skills and passion for the game.

“I’m thankful for my family, especially my (grandma) Citi. She is always there to offer words of encouragement, even on my toughest days. Whenever we play out of town, she always checks on me and how my games went. I also thank my parents and siblings for all the time, support and encouragement they give me,” she said.

Another positive influence in Chloe’s life is her eighth grade math teacher, Ms. Davis. “She made her class feel like family and we were always having fun and laughing. Her patience and willingness to help me understand each concept made all the difference. She went above and beyond to ensure I succeeded. I really appreciated the extra time she took to support me,” says Chloe.

“Outside of soccer, I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my youth group. My goal is to attend college and play college soccer. I’m excited about the opportunity to take my game to the next level,” exclaims Chloe.

The best advice I’ve received is to always stay focused on my goals and believe in myself, even when faced with challenges.
