“Cale has been a member of the varsity team for three seasons. He is always ready to step into any role asked to help our team win. He leads on and off the court.” -Coach Eric Savage
VYPE: What does this team and your teammates mean to you?
Askew: This team means more to me than I can explain. Learning from such a prestigious coach like coach Savage has been an honor. The lessons he has taught me not only has prepared me for basketball games, but for life as well. My teammates are like brothers to me. I know I have a lifelong bond with everyone I have taken the floor with while wearing a Sand Springs Sandite uniform.
VYPE: When you hear coach Savage has called you an unsung hero of this team, what does that mean to you and how do you define that term?
Askew: I love being called the unsung hero of the team because I believe it defines my role with the team to a tee. I just come into practice and bring the energy. I try to lead our team by example, whether that be picking someone up when they are having an off day or being in the right position to take a charge. My contributions go beyond what shows up in the stat sheet.
VYPE: What grade are you in this year and what are your plans after you graduate?
Askew: I am a senior, and after I graduate I plan to attend college and attain a business administration degree, which I plan to use to try and get into Law School.
