Autry O’Dell, a sophomore varsity athlete at Charles Page High School, continues to make an impression both on and off the volleyball court with her steady growth, strong values and team-first mindset.
O’Dell, who earned a spot on the Sand Springs High School varsity team as a freshman, said the experience helped shape her confidence early in her high school career.
“From day one, my teammates welcomed me and made me feel like I truly belonged,” O’Dell said. “Their support and encouragement helped me build confidence, grow as a player and become part of something special.”
A 10th grader, O’Dell balances athletics with academics, citing literature as her favorite subject and librarian Mrs. Starling as a standout educator who has influenced her love of reading. Outside of school and volleyball, she enjoys spending time reading and playing sand volleyball with friends.
Her inspiration comes from a variety of sources, but she points first to her faith.
“I’ve been inspired by many people throughout my journey coaches, mentors and teammates,” she said. “But above all, my greatest inspiration is Jesus. His example of love, humility, perseverance and serving others motivates me every day to be the best version of myself.”
On the court, O’Dell credits senior setter Addie Ray as both the team’s best setter and its most vocal leader. She also points to sophomore Ellie Sartin as the teammate who keeps spirits high and consistently gives full effort, especially when diving for digs.
Team chemistry is one of the aspects O’Dell values most about her program.
“I love how much my team and teammates feel like family,” she said. “It goes beyond just playing the game — it’s about support, trust and showing up for each other.”
That bond, she said, fuels both performance and resilience during challenging moments.
O’Dell has also gained important life lessons through athletics, particularly in communication.
“Communication is incredibly important because it has the power to transform an entire situation,” she said. “It builds teamwork, creates understanding and helps people work toward a common goal.”
When it comes to competition, O’Dell said one of the toughest environments to play in is Jenks, largely due to its energetic student section.
As she continues to develop her skills, O’Dell currently prefers a standing serve while working to improve her jump serve.
With a strong foundation of faith, teamwork and determination, O’Dell is poised to continue growing as both an athlete and a leader for Charles Page High School.
