Sand Springs volleyball standout and starting libero, Madison Blaylock, is taking advice from her mom and making the most of every opportunity this season. The class of 2020 learned a valuable lesson after watching last year’s class miss out on so many activities at the end of the year. Blaylock and her teammates are not letting a single moment slip by. “I was so ready and excited to start this season after being off for so long. I never thought my last year would go down like this. My mom has told me over and over before a game or practice to make the absolute most out of it, because you never know when we’ll get told our season is over. It has made me push myself each and every game,” said Blaylock.
There is no other group of teammates Blaylock would like to spend her final season with than this one. “I love my team because we are really good about staying positive when someone messes up. Volleyball is a mental sport and a game of mistakes. The pressure only goes up if you don’t have a supportive team behind you. I can also call all of these girls some of my closest friends off the court which makes our bond so much better when we play,” said Blaylock.
Her involvement in school activities does not stop with volleyball. “I am heavily involved in Charles Pages’ Student Council. I love being part of the school spirit and background stuff that nobody really knows about. I’m also president of our National Honors Society. Serving my community and leading others has always been a big part of my life,” said Blaylock.
There are many people who have influenced Blaylock over the course of her high school career. “My biggest influence and fans have always been my parents. They come to all of my games and always support me in volleyball and life. On the court, I would have to say my teammate Charley Fahland. She’s always so positive and energetic, even though she’s younger than me she’s still someone I can always look up to,” said Blaylock.
Blaylock plans to attend Oklahoma State University or Oklahoma Baptist University after graduating unless she receives an offer from another school. She still undecided on what she wants to study.
