For Bailey Copeland, softball has always been more than a game. The Charles Page High School senior has played since she was four years old, and her long connection to the sport has shaped her into a reliable leader for the Lady Sandites.
Copeland plays second base, a demanding position that calls for quick decisions, communication and consistency. She embraces the responsibility that comes with playing in the middle of the infield.
“I’m playing 2nd base. It’s a challenging position because of the jobs it has and leadership it takes,” Copeland said.

“My strength of the game is my ability to be a good leader and being reliable at the plate,” Copeland said.

Her coaches also have played an important role in helping Copeland grow as an athlete and teammate. Their influence has pushed her to pursue improvement while providing examples she can follow.

Copeland also carries lessons from former teammate Kelsi Hilton, whose consistent optimism left a lasting impression. In competitive and difficult moments, that positive outlook remains a valuable standard for Copeland’s own leadership.
“Kelsi Hilton, a former teammate, left the biggest impact on me because she always found the good and positive in things and as a leader that is big in tough situations,” Copeland said.
Entering her senior season, Copeland is focused on competing without hesitation and making the most of every opportunity. A lesson learned last season continues to guide that mindset.
“Last year I learned to not play with regrets and leave it all on the field,” Copeland said. After graduation, Copeland will continue her softball career at Fort Scott Community College.
